Dialogue meeting 08.01.26

Yesterday, the World Heritage Park participated in a dialogue meeting at Fretheim Hotel, where a number of representatives from the tourism industry gathered for engaging discussions and brainstorming. The goal of the gathering was to facilitate dialogue about common challenges, which was particularly emphasized through a workshop focusing on ideas for a more sustainable tourism industry.

The day started with mingling and coffee chats, before Mayor Kjell Bjørgum opened the program. He then handed over the floor to Conservation Area Manager Steinar Sørli, who had put together and led the program for the day.

The program addressed several key topics, including nature enjoyment for travelers, results from the resilience analysis, agriculture in the World Heritage area, sustainable tourism, and an introduction to the Environmental Patrol.

Britt Dalland, project manager for visitor management in Vestland County Municipality, led a workshop on what good visitor management entails. Some of the questions discussed included:

  • How do we ensure the use and not consumption of the World Heritage area ?

  • Have we reached a limit – and how can we limit this use of the fjord and the areas around the fjord?

  • How can we ensure that viable agriculture continues to be an important part of the World Heritage area?

  • Do we have the guest we want?

  • Can we better manage traffic and traffic through communication?

  • Can the experiences from the pilot project with the Environmental Patrol be something we can take forward for other initiatives?

The World Heritage Park is very pleased with the day and thanks for the many good feedback, ideas and – not least – contributions that enable the Environmental Patrol to continue its work in the future. The patrol is ready to clear new paths, take on exciting tasks and strengthen the communication of the world heritage values to guests in the fjord.

Thank you very much!
