Norway's World Heritage

The World Heritage in Norway consists of 8 sites. One of the sites - the West Norwegian Fjord Landscape, covers an area that includes three counties and six municipalities. The first Norwegian sites to be inscribed on the list were Bryggen in Bergen and Urnes Stave Church, both in 1979. The last were Rjukan and Notodden in 2015. Several Norwegian sites are also under consideration for the tentative list.

  • The pier in Bergen, 1979

  • Urnes Stave Church, 1979

  • Rock art in Alta, 1985 

  • The mining town of Røros (1980), the area around the mining town also known as the Circumference was inscribed in 2010.

  • Vega Island, 2004

  • Western Norwegian Fjord Landscape, with the Geirangerfjord sub-area and Nærøyfjorden , 2005

  • Struve's Meridan Arch, 2005
