The Multitasker Aurland municipality

Grade 4 from ABU and grades 3 and 4 from Flåm School were invited to a cultural heritage day at Otternes Bygdetun. We were told a little about the yard, and then we went into one of the houses to learn about using different materials, and gain knowledge about both wood and wool.

Edvin Flåm was with us and taught us about woodturning and how he made stuffing mushrooms. The students each got their own, which they polished nicely and made ready for use. He also told us about how he had been involved in wool processing throughout his childhood. We got to try carding, heard about spinning and twisting. We had borrowed equipment from Aurland craft club, so everyone got to try.

And then there was food - and you had to work for it too. The students made their own butter, using patience, muscle power and cooperation. They then got to taste it - like the butter eyes in the porridge that Gro and Gry had made. There was a good atmosphere around the table!

The day ended with a nice story, and we thank the students and teachers for a great day!
