Mangesyslaren Aurland municipality
4th grade from ABU and 3rd and 4th grade from Flåm school were invited to a cultural memory day at Otternes Bygdetun. We told a little about the yard, and then I went into one of the houses to learn about using different materials, and gain knowledge about both wood and wool.
Edvin Flåm was with us and taught us about wood turning and how he made stopper mushrooms. The pupils each got their own, which they polished well and made ready for use. He also told about how he had been involved throughout his upbringing and processing wool. We got to try carding, heard about spinning and twisting. We had borrowed equipment from Aurland husflidslag, so everyone got to try it out.
And then there was food - and you also had to work for it. The students made their own butter, using patience, muscle power and cooperation. They got to taste this - like the butter eye in the porridge that Gro and Gry had prepared. There was a good atmosphere around the table!
The day ended with a nice story, and I thank the students and teachers for a nice day!
