Summary of the development conference 2022

Nærøyfjorden Verdsarvpark, in collaboration with Visit Sognefjord and Sogn Næringshage, invited to a dialogue conference on Tuesday, November 22nd from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at Fretheim Hotel:

« Nærøyfjorden its UNESCO World Heritage status as a competitive advantage towards 2030 – how to become one of the world's best-prepared, most profitable and most environmentally friendly travel destinations, local communities and World Heritage sites?

The aim of the conference was to create a constructive, forward-looking process for utilizing the Nærøyfjord area's world heritage status as a competitive advantage, and to show the potential of the status as a driving positive factor in future visitor, business and community development.

Some key discussion topics were green mobility, the "right" target groups, markets and travel flows, infrastructure and the provision of common goods, the future of cruise tourism in Nærøyfjorden , Sognefjord and Western Norway, and the World Heritage status as a competitive advantage: how to further develop World Heritage quality and innovation in products, experiences and local communities?

The development conference will be the first part of several meeting places for long-term, sustainable development of the world heritage area as a destination and local community.

This report summarizes the conference and presents proposals for follow-up - including a proposal for a short communication and action plan - in addition to a plan for follow-up with subsequent forums and meeting places for concretizing innovation and facilitation in the world heritage area.
