It is the dog Pepsi who meets me first this day. She sits and watches me, calm, friendly. Then she comes over, tail wagging, and welcomes me with a gentle sniff and an invitation to pet.
Marte opens the door before I can ring the bell. She smiles gently, and I go to find John. - He is now here somewhere, she says. After a small tour of the area, and some photo-taking, the conversation goes over a cup of coffee in their cozy kitchen.
Marte and John run Flåm Camping and Hostel. They have been doing that for over 20 years now. - It is a working community, a family business, they say.
- We couldn't do it without mother and father, especially at the beginning when we took over, and when the children were small, says John.
- The coolest thing about driving here? It must be the people! And then the sheep, and the wildflower meadows, and then the landscape, and….! He has a good laugh himself. John is exceedingly fond of the city in which he lives and works.
Both are committed and busy developing as good an offer as they can for visitors. They are trying to have parts of the operation open all year round this winter, and can say that they have had guests who come to experience this season as well.
Flåm Camping and Hostel are the newest partners in Nærøyfjorden World Heritage Park. We wish you a warm welcome and look forward to good cooperation.
