Press release - visitor strategy

Creates a strategy for people and nature

Nærøyfjorden The conservation area board has been working on a visitor strategy for some time, which is now being sent out for consultation.

Chairman Noralv Distad says that the visitor strategy deals with the protected areas in the Nærøyfjord area with access points, and will seek to achieve a good balance between preserving natural values, providing good experiences for visitors, and facilitating local value creation.

  • The area has outstanding qualities, which we must protect and manage for the enjoyment and benefit of permanent residents and the many visitors. The board hopes for great engagement in the consultation phase, says Distad.

The strategy looks at, among other things, how to manage traffic on the fjord so that both travelers and residents have good experiences. It considers the extent to which there should be prepared landing sites for kayakers along the fjord, what trails and hiking destinations should be prepared for visitors, and what areas should be kept untouched.

  • We are seeing a huge increase in people wanting to experience the nature around them. Nærøyfjorden , but not all areas can tolerate greater stress. In that case, it is important to try to control traffic to selected and well-designed areas, says conservation area manager Jorunn Vallestad.

The strategy identifies Brekkefossen, Bakkanosi and Rimstigen as popular hiking destinations that may need a greater degree of development, while Undredalshalvøya, Bleia – Storebotnen and Grånosmyrane are presented as areas where new development should be avoided.

  • This is currently a proposal, emphasizes Vallestad. Do you have knowledge that should be included in the plan? Or do you have input on areas, trails and hiking destinations that should be better adapted for traffic, or areas where new adaptations should be avoided? Then we hope you will send us suggestions before the consultation deadline on November 11.

The visit strategy can be found on the websites of Nærøyfjorden protected area board and is posted for review at the municipal buildings in Aurland, Lærdal, Vik and Voss.
