Launch of guidelines for the management of cultural heritage in areas protected under the Natural Diversity Act
The Norwegian Agency for Cultural Heritage and the Norwegian Environment Agency have prepared a guide that provides information on how cultural heritage in protected areas should be managed. The document will clarify how cultural heritage is protected in protected areas, and what responsibility the administrative authorities have for safeguarding cultural heritage in the management of protected areas. The guidance document is aimed specifically at managers of national parks and other protected areas, but may also be useful for members of national park and protected area boards and for employees in municipalities, the county governor, the county authority and the Sami Parliament.
In the process of preparing the guidance document, the Conservation Area Manager for Nærøyfjorden and Stølsheimen Anbjørg Nornes was involved. The Western Norwegian Fjord Landscape World Heritage Area, sub-area Nærøyfjorden , is made up of several protected areas of different categories, as well as the inhabited area outside protection under the Nature Conservation Act, and it is these protected areas that Anbjørg Nornes is the Protected Area Manager for. More information about the protected areas within the world heritage area can be found here.
